Druid Design is a relatively young studio consisting of two designers, Mick Guthrie, born in
County Galway, Ireland and Nicole Kennedy, born in Brisbane, Australia, specialising in Celtic design.
Nicole and Mick have been interested in the Celts and their art for many years. Their designs
have been greatly influenced by Celtic Manuscripts dating from around the eighth century, chiefly
the 'Book of Kells' but also the Books of Durrow and Armagh, and the Lindisfarne Gospels. They
continue to study Celtic design and have toured and photographed many of the Irish high crosses.
Their products consists of hand painted ceramic wares and a hand printed table and bed linnen range,
all with Celtic designs. Mick and Nicole are currently experimenting with carved clay pieces and hand formed clay sculpture. The Ned Kelly range of clay art introduced recently has been very well received. A Lifesize Ned Kelly Sculpture and stand, donated to the Uni. NSW by Mick and Nicole was auctioned at NSW state Parliament recently raising a fair sum of money for that cause.
Druid Design products have retailed through the National Gallery of Australia, and various boutiques
and smaller galleries in Australia and Japan and also markets such as Paddington Market, The Rocks market, Manly
Arts and Craft Market, the Opera House Market and Fox Studio Market. Mick and Nicole have also
participated in various exhibitions in Sydney and were delighted to present the Prime Minister of Ireland with a
Druid Design piece on his State visit to Australia.
